Going out of business is hardly a risk right now. Just a couple of years ago, Steam was the most profitable company in the USA per employee (of all companies not just game companies). Speaking of the abuse of language, the term "free" can in no way be applied to the games on PS+ just like the toys that come with your Happy Meal are not free. Own applies much more to the games on Steam than it does to those you get with PS+. Well, w hen it comes to digital content the term "own" is thrown around pretty loosely. Also, you might want to consider calling them Steam Rollers.

Valve is entering the console arena with the potential to flatten the competition. Sadly, I get this feeling they won't do it. If they do that, I might stop calling it an Extortionbox and get one myself. That's the only edge they could potentially have over Sony this gen. Not only that, but it might have impacted the number of people gamesharing on the PS3 as well. If they had made digital downloads cheaper or having sales without premium membership, more people might have been inclined to go digital. Ironically, the Paystation 4 and Extortionbox One run on the same architecture.Īnd perhaps that's been where Sony's strategy has been messed up. As you know, Valve's going planning to disguise PCs as consoles, which makes me think of a wolf in sheep's clothing. Shame Sony didn't factor in that they will be competing with PCs this gen. It's more of an attempt to trick people into thinking they can't sue so they won't try. Courts tend to frown on attempts to dodge liability. Part of success is treating your customers with respect.Īctually, ToS doesn't mean much when they conflict with the law. > You're right about misuse of free when it comes to PS+. Heck I'll take Origin, Gamefly, etc over PS+ any day. And none of my games are being held hostage with a gun pointed at their heads requiring a $50 ransom to keep them alive.īeing a fanboy has nothing to do with paying for online though. And.you actually get to choose which game you play.Īm I a Steam fan? Yes. They won't go poof if you stop shoveling money into Sony' mouth and you will still own them 10-20 years from now. You know that with the $50 you pay to rent old indie games with PS+ you could buy 10+ on Steam and actually own them. You need to keep paying Sony money if you want to keep the game-another incentive to keep giving Sony more money for no reason. But, you don't get to choose which game you get to play. Yes getting a game with your subscription does take a little of the sting out of it.
